Synchronising your files in ‘the cloud’.

In our article “Outsourcing file sharing and collaboration…but which provider?” we had a look at some of the solutions to online collaboration and online file storage. Now we are taking a look at another solution for storing files in ‘the cloud’, which stay synchronised across multiple devices and an online desktop.

We’ve been trying out a new service provided by Microsoft called Live Mesh. Live Mesh is a beta, which means it’s a new service that they are currently developing and testing. Check out the video below to see what it’s all about and how to use it.

We have to say we have been very impressed with Live Mesh so far and we are using this much more than Office Live Workspace and Live Sync because this solution combines the two. Ok, so it doesn’t integrate into Office, but if you’re frequently working from different PCs then you’re not likely to go through the hassle of installing the plugin for Live Office anyway.

The remote desktop feature makes this a great all round solution. We are currently looking at ways to leave a computer in a low power state (i.e. sleep mode) and wake it up when a remote connection is attempted. We will be sure to keep you posted.
